Speaker 1:

In Christ, we are not just saved from our sin, but we are brought into God's family as His beloved children. This adoption means that we have a new identity, a new relationship with our Heavenly Father and a new inheritance. Understanding this incredible truth should fill us with awe, gratitude and confidence in our relationship with God. Well, welcome. My name is James Long Jr. I'm a pastor, counselor and university professor. Welcome to Lessons for Life, where I help people whose pain from their past or their present is influencing their perspective on life Through teaching them about a person, the Lord Jesus Christ, principles and promises from God's Word, and giving them a pathway for change. My goal is to guide you towards peace, hope and joy. In today's lesson, we will be exploring the topic of our identity in Christ, that we are adopted children of God, and learning how God's truth can transform our lives. If you're ready to experience the joy of forgiveness and freedom found in Christ alone, you are in the right place. Well, the passage of scripture that we will be looking at today is found in Ephesians, chapter 1, verse 5. It says this he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. Here's the devotional thought. Adoption is one of the greatest blessings of the Christian life. Through Jesus Christ, we are not just forgiven, but we are brought into God's family as his sons and daughters. This means that we are loved with the same love that God has for his only begotten son. In the ancient world, adoption often involved a wealthy man adopting a young male adult to carry on his family name and inherit his estate. But God, in his great mercy, adopts people from all backgrounds, regardless of their past. He brings us into his family not because of anything good in us, but because of his incredible love and grace. As adopted children, we now have access to God as our Father. We can come to him in prayer, trusting that he cares for us, provides for us and protects us. And as his children, we also share in the inheritance of Christ eternal life, glory and an intimate relationship with our Father that begins now and lasts forever. Bringing it home, applying what we've learned.

Speaker 1:

Three points Number one live confidently in your identity. Remember that you are God's beloved child, adopted into his family, and let this truth of Jesus Christ so shape your sense of worth and purpose. Number two trust in God's fatherly care. As God's child, you can trust that he knows what you need and will provide for you. Bring your concerns to him in prayer with confidence.

Speaker 1:

Number three imitate your heavenly father. Strive to live in a way that reflects God's love and grace, just as he has shown them to you. Well, let us pray. Father, thank you for adopting me as your child. Help me to live with confidence of knowing that I am loved by you. Teach me to trust your care and reflect your character in my daily life In your son's matchless, holy and powerful name. We pray Amen. Well, thank you for joining me today.
