Speaker 1:

As believers in Christ, we experience spiritual life, having been made alive through his death and resurrection. Our union with Christ means that sin no longer holds power over us and we now live through the Spirit empowered by God to overcome sin. In this new life, we are free to live for righteousness, filled with the hope of future resurrection and eternal life. Filled with the hope of future resurrection and eternal life. Hello, my name is James Long Jr and I am a pastor, counselor and university professor. Welcome to Lessons for Life, where I help people whose pain from their past or their present is influencing their perspective on life Through teaching them about a person, the Lord Jesus Christ, principles and promises from God's Word and giving them a pathway for change. My goal is to guide you towards peace, hope and joy. In today's lesson, we will be looking at the topic of our identity in Christ, that we are alive in Christ, and seeing how God's truth can transform our lives. If you're ready to experience the joy of forgiveness and freedom found in Christ alone, you are in the right place. Well, there are multiple passages of scripture that we're going to consider today. The first one is found in Romans, chapter 6, verse 11. It says this so you must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. The second passage is in Romans, chapter 8, verses 9 through 11. It says this you, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit. If, in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. If the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his spirit who dwells in you. And the last passage is found in Ephesians, chapter 2, verses 4 through 5. It says this here's the devotional thought made us alive together with Christ. By grace, you have been saved. Here's the devotional thought. Before we met Christ, we were spiritually dead, lost in our sin and separated from God. But the moment we placed our faith in Jesus, everything changed. We were made alive together with Christ. His resurrection power is now at work in us, transforming us from the inside out. We are no longer slaves to sin, but we live with the reality of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, empowering us to live for righteousness. Paul reminds us in Romans 6, verse 11, to consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. This is not simply a mindset, but a reality based on what Christ has done for us. Our new identity in Christ means that sin's dominion over our lives has been broken. We are alive with Christ, free to live for him, filled with his spirit and confident that our bodies, though mortal, will one day be resurrected to eternal life. Let this truth shape the way we live today, walking in freedom and victory that comes through Jesus Christ, bringing it home, applying what we've learned.

Speaker 1:

Three points Number one Embrace your new identity. Reflect on the fact that you are no longer bound by sin but alive in Christ. Live out this truth in your daily decisions. 2. Walk in the Spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, guide you and empower you in your battle against sin and in living a righteous life.

Speaker 1:

Number three live with hope. Remember that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you, giving life to your body and assuring you a future resurrection. Well, let us pray. Father, thank you for making me alive with Christ. I praise you for the resurrection power that is at work in me. Help me to live each day in the freedom you have given me, no longer bound by sin, but alive to righteousness. Guide me by your Spirit and fill me with hope as I look forward to the future that you have promised. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen. Well, thank you for joining me today.
