Speaker 1:

Today's devotional topic is Joseph forgave his brothers, a story from Genesis, chapter 50. Now, forgiveness is one of the most challenging acts we are called to extend as believers, especially when wrongs committed against us are severe. Joseph's story is a powerful illustration of God's redemptive power working through human brokenness and sin. When Joseph forgave his brothers, he not only released them from guilt, but also acknowledged the larger plan God had for him, turning their evil actions into something that would bring about the salvation of many. Well, hello, my name is James Long Jr. I'm a pastor, counselor and university professor. Welcome to Lessons for Life, where I help people whose pain from their past or their present is influencing their perspective on life through teaching them about a person, the Lord Jesus Christ, principles and promises from God's Word, and giving them a pathway for change. My goal is to guide you towards peace, hope and joy. In today's lesson, we will be exploring how God's truth can transform your life and how to experience the joy of forgiveness and freedom found in Christ alone. Well, the passage of scripture for today is found in Genesis, chapter 50, verses 19 through 20. It says this but Joseph said to them do not fear, for am I in the place of God. As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good. To bring it about that many people should be kept alive as they are today. Here's the devotional thought. Joseph's response to their brother's fear after their father's death is a stunning display of humility and faith. Though his brothers had sold him into slavery, joseph refused to act as their judge, saying am I in the place of God? He recognized that only God has the right to judge human hearts. By relinquishing that role, joseph demonstrated a deep understanding of God's sovereignty. Fishing that role, joseph demonstrated a deep understanding of God's sovereignty.

Speaker 1:

The core of Joseph's forgiveness lies in his belief that God meant it for good. What his brothers intended for evil, god used for a greater purpose. This principle echoes throughout scripture and culminates in the crucifixion of Christ. Just as God used evil actions of men to bring about salvation, through Jesus' death and resurrection he can turn even the deepest wounds into something that brings life and healing to others. Joseph's story reminds us that, no matter how painful our circumstances or how unjust the actions are against us, god is always working behind the scenes for our good and for his glory. This does not excuse the sin or the hurt caused, but it does offer us hope. If we trust in God's sovereignty, we can forgive, knowing that he is using even the most painful circumstances in our lives for a greater purpose, bringing it home, applying what we've learned.

Speaker 1:

Three points Number one release the role of judge. Like Joseph, remember that judgment belongs to God alone. Let go of the need for revenge and trust that God will make things right. Number two trust in God's plan. Believe that even the evil done against you can be turned into something good by God. He is always working for your ultimate good and for his glory. Number three forgive freely.

Speaker 1:

Joseph's story encourages us to forgive those who have hurt us, knowing that God can use even those experiences to bless others and to grow in our faith. Well, let us pray. Father, thank you for the example of Joseph's forgiveness. Help me to trust in your plan in the midst of pain and wrongs committed against me. Give me the grace to forgive, knowing that you alone are the judge. Teach me to see your hand in every situation and to trust that you are working for my good and your glory. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen. Well, thank you for joining me today. If you found this lesson helpful, I encourage you to explore more resources and support on my website, jameslongjrorg.
