Speaker 1:

The story of Joseph is one of resilience, integrity and faithfulness amidst temptation. Now, in a world where the lines of right and wrong can often blur, joseph's unwavering commitment to righteousness serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that can come from a relationship with God. As we delve into his example, we can learn how to stand firm against temptation and remain true to our values even when faced with significant challenges. Well, hello, my name is James Long Jr. I'm a pastor, counselor and university professor. Welcome to Lessons for Life, where I help people whose pain from their past or their present is influencing their perspective on life through teaching them about a person, the Lord Jesus Christ, principles and promises from God's Word and giving them a pathway for change. My goal is to guide you towards peace, hope and joy. In today's lesson, we will be exploring how God's truth can transform your life and how to experience the joy of forgiveness and freedom found in the person and work of Christ alone. Well, the passage of scripture is found in Genesis, chapter 39, verses 7 through 10. It says this and after a time, his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said Lie with me. But he refused and said to his master's wife Behold, because of me. My master has no concerns about anything in the house and he has put everything that he has in my charge. He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How, then, can I do such a great wickedness and sin against God? Here's the devotional thought.

Speaker 1:

In Genesis, chapter 39, we witness a pivotal moment in Joseph's life. He is faced with an enticing proposition from Potiphar's wife, yet he chooses to resist her advances. Joseph's response reveals his deep understanding, or loyalty and integrity. He recognizes that succumbing to this temptation would not only betray his master, who entrusted him with everything, but it would also be a sin against God. Joseph's refusal emphasizes the importance of accountability and moral responsibility, reminding us that our actions have consequences that have extended beyond our immediate circumstances. Joseph's integrity stands in stark contrast to the behaviors of others in his family, such as Reuben and Judah, while they succumbed to temptation.

Speaker 1:

Joseph chose a path of righteousness, driven by his faith in God. His commitment to doing what was right, even in the face of intense pressure, illustrates the profound impact of his relationship with God. Joseph's awareness of living in the presence of God fortified his resolve, allowing him to reject the temptation with confidence and clarity. This narrative also serves as an encouragement to us today. Like Joseph, we face temptations in various forms, often presented in enticing packages. Yet we can take heart, knowing that, just as God was with Joseph, he is with us as well. The promise of His presence will provide strength and comfort, reminding us that we will never be alone in our struggles. When faced with difficult choices, we can lean on God's guidance, finding in Him the courage to stand firm in our faith. Bringing it home.

Speaker 1:

Here are three ways you can apply Joseph's example in your life. Number one acknowledge God's presence. Recognize that God is with you in every situation. Take time each day to invite his presence into your decisions, seeking his guidance and strength. 2. Cultivate Integrity. Reflect on areas in your life where you may be tempted to compromise your values. Commit to making choices that align with your beliefs, even when it is difficult.

Speaker 1:

3. Support One. Surround yourself with friends who encourage you to live righteously. Share your struggles and victories with one another, fostering a community that upholds integrity and accountability. Well, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Joseph and the strength demonstrated in resisting temptation. Help me to recognize your presence in my life and to stand firm in my commitment to righteousness. Grant me the courage to make choices that honor you and reflect your character. May I support others in their journey, fostering a community of integrity and faithfulness. In Jesus' name we pray Amen.
